I am a Licensed Social Worker with over 40 years of experience, having served as the Abuse Investigator and as the Director of Social Work Services and Community Relations for the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs.

 

Relocating to Greenwood, SC, in 2001, I  worked as a career counselor at Piedmont Technical College, where I held the position of Women’s Grant and Non-traditional Studies Coordinator and Career Transition Specialist.

In 2006, I returned to Lexington, SC, and began my role as a Career Specialist at Busbee Creative Arts Academy within Lexington School District 2. 

 

In 2007, I joined the Education and Economic Development Act Team at the SC Department of Education, serving as a Career Specialist Liaison and Alternative School Liaison until August 2014.

 

My passion for student engagement led me to Lexington High School in Lexington School District 1 in August 2014, where I continued as a Career Specialist until July 1, 2016. During this time, I was named "Midlands Career Specialist of the Year." I

 

was then promoted to Coordinator of Leadership Curriculum and Partnerships for the district, overseeing career specialists, developing curriculum for High Schools that Work and Middle Grades that Work, creating Employability Skills Programs, and contributing to the district-wide Power Skills programs for grades K-12, while also serving as the Work-based Learning Coordinator.  I am especially proud of the ability to move our services to online delivery for all students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2022, I retired with 38 years of state service.

I hold a BA and M.Ed. from Columbia College and am a Licensed Social Worker through the SC Department of Labor and Licensing. Additionally, I am an Instructor of the Facilitating Career Development Course and the School Career Development Advisor Courses for the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE). I am certified in MBTI Step 1 and 2 through the Myers-Briggs Corporation, a Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS), and a Certified School Career Development Advisor (CSCDA).

 

Currently, I serve as Past-President Emeritus of the South Carolina Career Development Association (SCCDA), which was awarded the NCDA 2019 Outstanding Association of the Year. For more information, please visit our site.
